Weather in Phu Quoc in August 2025
August on Phu Quoc Island is hot and humid with tropical showers and sea temperatures around 29°C. In the morning, the sea is calm and suitable for swimming, but after rain, waves, murky water, and jellyfish may appear.

⛈️ August in Phu Quoc is the height of the wet season, also known as the rainy season.
Daytime temperatures average around 28–31°C, with nighttime temperatures hovering around 27°C. High humidity (80–85%) intensifies the feeling of heat, and in the sun, the actual temperature can feel as high as 35°C.
Rain is frequent—approximately 20 days a month. These rains come in short but heavy tropical downpours, most often in the afternoon or at night. In between, the weather remains warm and often sunny. There are approximately 5–6 hours of rainless, but overcast, weather each day. The sea water stays at a comfortable 29°C, making swimming almost always possible.
August is dominated by the southwest monsoon: a moderate wind brings coolness, but it significantly increases humidity. The UV index reaches its maximum values, so you will need sunscreen even in cloudy weather.
Tourist comfort
Is it worth going?
Yes, August isn't the dry season, but it won't ruin your trip. Most showers are short-lived, and within half an hour the sun is shining brightly again. Mornings are perfect for excursions and beach activities, and in the evening you can stroll through the markets and promenades at a pleasant temperature of around 28°C.
The high humidity makes the heat more difficult to bear, so if you want to survive, it's important to drink plenty of water and take breaks in the shade or in air-conditioned rooms. For example, I prefer to move among the shade of trees and buildings. But the island is especially green and picturesque at this time, and the beaches are less crowded. It's nice to take photos and have less need to remove unnecessary people in Photoshop.
In this photo below, you can see the downpour against the dramatic sky. Yes, it came to us half an hour later, and we were hiding in a cafe, but this is the only way to take a photo like this. It's unique in its own way. So, for original photography at sea, we use any weather and enjoy its possibilities.
Sea and Swimming in Phu Quoc in August
Waves: On the west coast beaches (Long Beach, Bai Dai), the sea in August is usually calmer and suitable for swimming in the morning. The east coast is more likely to have waves due to the southwest monsoon.
Tides: Low tides are noticeable near reefs and shallow areas (Ong Lang, Khem Beach). The water can retreat quite far, making swimming less comfortable but perfect for long walks along the shore.
Jellyfish: In August, jellyfish can occasionally be washed ashore in Phu Quoc—especially after heavy rain. Stinging species do occur, so swimming in rash guards or snorkeling clothing is a safer choice.
Water clarity: After strong tropical showers, the sea often becomes murky. Visibility drops for diving, snorkeling, and underwater photography.
Tip for travelers: Choose mornings for swimming, avoid stormy days, and pay attention to local lifeguard warnings. Hotels mark their beaches with flags: red means dangerous, yellow is a warning, green is safe. I once even saw a black flag—whatever that meant.
And of course, don’t forget to walk with an umbrella.
Comparison with previous years
The weather in August 2025 closely followed the pattern of previous years. Average daytime temperatures remained between 28-30°C, and nighttime temperatures around 27°C.
On average, each August sees about 20 rainy days, and 2025 was no exception. At the beginning of the month, there was a hot week, and then the rains took over.
The rest of the month saw no significant changes: no sudden increases in rainfall, no extreme temperatures down to -10°C or up to +50°C.
In general, August in Phu Quoc is always hot, humid, and rainy, but the warm sea, lush greenery, and atmospheric, dramatic sunsets make the vacation unique. It's a wonderful time to enjoy the rainy tropics and deserted beaches as they are.
